Building a next-generation board


A FTSE media group asked us to find a diverse digital voice for its board. We placed a female technology leader who was also a first-time NED. She was a graduate of Bird & Co’s Glass Ladder programme. We were then asked to find a new Chairman. We placed another woman. We went on to find a further two NEDs: another first-timer, under- 40, with a marketing background; and an experienced female NED with strong financial and commercial credentials. The result was a refreshed board equipped with digital expertise.

The creative-but-commercial combination


We were mandated by a private equity firm to find a Chief Executive for an international film school. The brief demanded that candidates be both commercially sharp and empathetic with creative businesses yet, at the same time, not be part of the media village. The out-of-sector search was further complicated by a performance-geared package more likely to appeal to entrepreneurs. The successful candidate had led a digital media scale-up and had a personal interest in education.

NEDs to drive cultural change


A private equity-backed digital entertainment software company instructed us to find a NED with experience of running a SaaS business who could also be a mentor to the Chief Executive. We found a female entrepreneur who had completed three successful exits of highly relevant businesses. A specialist in her field, she had all the technical skills but also the emotional intelligence to manage cultural transformation. We also found the client another NED, with strong operational experience in their sector.

Inspirational global leader


We were asked to find a Chief Executive to run EMEA for one of the largest marketing communications businesses in the Fortune 500. The brief demanded someone who could inspire ‘follow-ship’ from executives in 12 separate businesses without common identity or purpose. The successful candidate was a partner at McKinsey who understood at the highest level how to work with FTSE clients on brand. He had also been the Chief Executive of a global brand and advertising agency so was an experienced and highly commercial leader. He led them to a shared vision.

Search + support = success


We successfully placed a Director of Brand, Reputation and Marketing with a FTSE 100 high street bank who subsequently benefited from one of our mentoring programmes. The support he received after his placement helped him adjust to the culture of financial services and enabled him to be successful in a function not well understood by most banks. We found a Marketing Communications Director to report to him and a Corporate Communications Managing Director to be his peer, thus building a brand and communications leadership team around him.
